Therapeutic Properties
The efficacy of Neo-Cough Syrup is due to its two key components: – **Codeine**: An opium alkaloid that acts on the central nervous system to depress the respiratory and cough centres, directly suppressing the urge to cough. – **Promethazine**: An antihistamine that works on H1 receptors to exert antitussive effects, while also providing sedative and anticholinergic (atropine-like) actions that help calm irritation.
Directions for Use
Symptomatic treatment should be short-term (a few days at most). – **Adults**: The average dose is 1 tablespoon (15ml) in the morning and evening. – **Children aged 8 to 14 years**: 1 to 2 teaspoons (5ml to 10ml) in the morning and evening, depending on age and severity. Use the measuring device provided. Shake the bottle well before use.
Safety Information
**Contraindications**: Do not use for asthmatic cough, respiratory insufficiency, or in children under 8 years of age. Avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. – **Precautions**: This medication causes drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery after taking. Alcohol consumption is strictly contraindicated.
